National Financial Literacy Study Results Released to Congress
Nation’s First Financial Literacy Classroom on Wheels Comes to Washington
Tuesday, September 25, 2007
(10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. EST)
What:
Networks Financial Institute at Indiana State University will release results of its national K-12 financial literacy research to members of Congress and their staffs on Tuesday, September 25. The study examines the attitudes and aptitudes of educators, financial literacy curricula and classroom materials used by teachers across the United States to identity barriers to financial literacy learning. Research results will be available to the media during tours of NFI’s Money Bus, the nation’s first financial literacy classroom on wheels.
Why:
Personal economic issues such as credit card debt, home foreclosures, the collapse of the sub-prime lending market, and escalating numbers of personal bankruptcies have focused the nation’s attention on the importance of financial education for adults. Educational experts, and a growing number of advocates believe that reaching children as early as possible helps them to develop solid skills and to establish financial habits that will serve them throughout their lives. The Money Bus is an example of these efforts.
