Dr. John A. Tatom brings 30+ years of monetary policy and applied research to Indianapolis institute
(June 9, 2005, Indianapolis, Ind.) – Dr. John A. Tatom, a distinguished economist and expert on monetary policy and economics has joined Networks Financial Institute as Director of Research. Tatom brings more than 30 years of experience in domestic and international monetary policy to NFI.
As Director of Research, Tatom will lead a team of research fellows from across academia and the business sector to construct a source of unbiased research that addresses the challenges facing the financial services industry and seek innovative solutions.
“Many of the issues impacting the financial services industry today were barely on the radar screen five years ago. Corporate issues such as Sarbanes Oxley, new delivery channels and escalating consumer debt levels have very real implications for the future of the financial industry and economics in general. Networks Financial Institute is pioneering a comprehensive approach to the future of the financial services industry,” said Tatom.
Prior to joining Networks Financial Services Institute, Tatom served as an Executive-in-Residence at DePaul University in Chicago, where he conducted research and taught MBA courses in macroeconomics and international finance. He also held numerous positions with UBS in both Chicago and Zurich, Switzerland where he advised the Bank on economic policy and risk in emerging countries, global asset allocation and currency issues.
Prior to working for UBS, Tatom served for nearly 20 years in the research department at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Widely published on both domestic and international monetary and fiscal policy issues, Tatom is often consulted for his expertise on issues regarding inflation, capital formation, international competitiveness, trade and international policy.
“John’s depth of experience in the financial services industry coupled with his contacts with thought-leaders from around the globe will be critical in helping Networks Financial Institute facilitate dialogue, frame the key issues and conduct meaningful research that will shape the financial services industry in the future,” said Elizabeth Coit, executive director of Networks Financial Institute.
Networks Financial Institute, an initiative of Indiana State University, was founded in 2003 with a grant from Lilly Endowment. NFI strives to facilitate broad, collaborative thinking, dialogue and progress in the evolving financial services marketplace, concentrating on the areas of education, outreach and research. Headquartered in Indianapolis with offices in Washington, D.C. and on the campus of Indiana State, and with outreach internationally, NFI’s goal is to serve as a catalyst for change in the financial services industry.
