Unique Approach to Financial Literacy
Spurred by the need to provide effective, broadly implemented financial literacy education, NFI has developed a set of financial literacy competencies in order to improve the teaching and learning of financial literacy. NFI's unique mission has been focused on building national standards and creating greater awareness of these core competencies in financial literacy
among educators and policymakers.
K-12 Financial Literacy Curriculum
A deep body of research exists that shows the importance of introducing literacy skills as early in a child's cognitive development as possible. Keeping in mind the financial illiteracy issues facing today's society, NFI believes that the foundations of financial literacy must also be taught as early as kindergarten, and must be reinforced continuously throughout the educational process. It is for this reason that NFI is developing the nation's first financial literacy curriculum spanning grades K-12, with special emphasis on the early elementary years, and which is mapped to academic standards.
Interactive Learning
NFI will circulate this curriculum through a number of approaches, including NFI's mobile financial literacy classroom, The NFI Money Bus, enabling children to learn financial literacy through engaging interactive exhibits.
