Basic Purpose & Scope:          

The Assistant Director of Financial Literacy, K-12 Programs, is responsible for leading, managing, developing and directing the Kids Count financial literacy program including curriculum development, and classroom activities at local and national levels in support of NFI’s mission.

                                               

Responsibilities:                       

OVERVIEWNFI is seeking a candidate with knowledge and experience in K-12 curriculum development, educational standards, program implementation, and assessment to provide leadership, management, and development expertise and to direct the NFI Kids Count program development process.  Classroom experience is essential.  The position includes curriculum development, review and aligning instructional activities with appropriate skill levels and objectives for grades K through 12, with a current emphasis on K through 6. 

 

Also integral to the role will be the development of a financial literacy professional development module for teachers with the goal of implementing the module on a national level.  Background and comfort working with technology is critical.  Specific areas of focus include financial literacy, math, and social science concepts. 

The candidate will use their leadership skills to focus primarily on program development, including updating existing curriculum (aligning it to state standards, modifying and extending existing lessons, creating new lessons), participating in the creation of professional development programs and materials for teachers to support the curriculum, and, formulating and conducting assessments.  Experience in each of these areas is desired. Additionally, demonstrated experience working with users to gather feedback and field test new materials is a plus. 

We are seeking a candidate who has demonstrated leadership experience in directing and producing creative solutions utilizing non-traditional approaches.

                                               

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP AND PROJECT OVERSIGHT:

Develop and track metrics and measures to determine the various Financial Literacy K-12 programs effectiveness.  Work effectively in a team environment with a focus on meeting needs of internal and external clients.  Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to do what is needed to get the job done.  Manage projects effectively, on schedule and on budget.  Participate in the strategic development of marketing and business development plans for the NFI Financial Literacy department programs.  Management and execution of the marketing and business development plans in the K-12 area.  Proven track record for meeting deadlines and delivering on goals.

 

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT:

Lead the creation and implementation of the professional development program to support national rollout of the financial literacy curriculum.  Modify and extend curriculum as necessary to achieve educational goals in both hands-on and electronic formats.  Review and revise existing curriculum to meet evolving program needs, ensure tight alignment of instruction to specific curricula, standards, skills and objectives.  Develop and administer assessments at program and individual levels; synthesize and communicate assessment results.  Identify innovative strategies to meet the evolving curricular demands of the program.

 

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

Excellent project management skills both in development and implementation of projects.  May also define and manage project work done by contracted subject matter experts and content writers.  Provide direction to web designers and work collaboratively with them to create unique online tools to support NFI’s financial literacy programming.

 

OTHER:

Provide leadership and support to program teachers.  Stay current on most recent subject area strategies, trends and initiatives.   Perform other related duties as required

 

Required Education:  Master’s degree in Education or related field, with an emphasis in curriculum development a plus. 

 

Required Skills & Exp.:  A minimum of three years successful teaching experience, preferably in K-6 setting (mathematics experience preferable).  Understanding of best practices in the design and development of educator professional development programming.  Curriculum development experience.  Excellent research, writing and verbal communications skills.  Excellent organizational and follow-through skills, with an emphasis in project management.  Ability to manage simultaneous projects.  Ability to meet deadlines.  Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.  Must enjoy a challenging work environment that requires flexibility, self-direction, and creativity.

 

Preferred Skills: Understanding of instructional technology and its impact on learning.  Proficiency in technology (especially with Microsoft Office programs).
